New border

New border

Regular readers of this blog will know that we’ve become great fans of foxgloves.  Easy to grow, happy in shade or sun, and flowering in early summer they’re a great addition to any garden.  Though they are very happy to seed around without any intervention we like to sow them into trays, potting them on when large enough to handle, and then lining them out in vacant areas of the vegetable garden prior to planting them out.

Getting them into the ground is a great way to help them on their way and within a month or so they’ll double in size.  The other advantage of having them in the ground is the freedom it gives you.  If you need to be away from home for a few days or longer there's no need to ask a friendly neighbour to water your plants.

This week we moved them to their final position in a new border we’ve created on the north side of the cottage.  Predominantly white flowering plants will be grown here so we chose 35 of the foxglove ‘Pam’s Choice’.  White flowered with a beautifully spotted throat, a forest of graceful spires should be greeting visitors to Genus HQ in early June next year.
