Peach Fuzz has been named the Pantone colour of the year. It’s the prettiest of colours, soft and warm, sitting somewhere between apricot and pale pink that will add a delicate romantic feel to the garden. Here is our recommendation of peachy perennials to keep the colour going until late summer.
Viola x wittrockiana ‘Peach Shades’. This is a lovely pansy with large flowers in delicious peachy pink and cream shades. Great in window boxes to get you through the colder months.
Chaenomeles speciosa 'Geisha Girl'. The gorgeous blossom of ornamental quinces is a wonderful addition to planting for early spring colour. C. 'Geisha Girl' which flowers in March, a little later than other varieties has stunning double deep apricot-pink flowers from March to May and looks delicious trained against a sunny wall.
Geum ‘Mai Tai’. I love the colour of this delicate russet peach geum. Useful for early summer colour (May – July), along with nepeta and grasses. It likes a sunny aspect though it’ll cope with a little shade.
Achillea millefolium 'Summer Fruits Salmon’. As summer gets into full swing, achilleas are a beautiful long flowering perennial (May – August). T hey’re available in many pretty pastel colours including this peachy salmon colour. Achilleas like a sunny aspect with well-drained soil, so add grit to heavy soil.
Linaria ‘Peachy’ is a sterile perennial toadflax. It has slender stems with delicate flower spires in yellows, oranges and pinks. It flowers all summer, likes a sunny spot and is fairly drought resistant once established.
