Blue is the colour

Visitors who come to Genus HQ pass by a small border that looks especially good at this time of year.  Early primroses in February set the theme and are followed this month with a blue and yellow palette that continues for about five weeks.

Interesting combinations confuse the eye as the colours jump between the acid yellow of Euphorbia polychroma and the indigo of Ompholodes ‘Cherry Ingram’.  Enthusiasts of the colour wheel could wax lyrical for hours.

Other blues in the border add to the effect with un-invited alkanet lurking in the ivy at the rear and Brunnera ‘Jack Frost’ with its silvered leaves nestling next to a clump of sarcococca.  With cotoneaster, viburnum, choisya, and holly there’s always something to catch the eye throughout the year.
