Technology in the garden - the chair to save the oceans

If you’re in the market for some more garden furniture and are wanting to do something about the environment, the DuraOcean could be the answer.  This ground breaking chair, designed by manufacturers of sustainable furniture Lifestyle Garden with support from the Eden Project, is made from plastic ocean waste. Each one takes 3.5 tons of plastic such as nets and ropes and out of the ocean.

The destructive effect of plastic waste on marine life is well documented.  Every year, about eight million tonnes of plastic ends up in oceans, killing in excess of 100,000 marine creatures each year.

The design of the DuraOcean chair is contemporary, with vertical slats and a rounded seat making it a comfortable and stylish piece of outdoor furniture.  It is only available in one natural green colour which has attractive colour variation due to using pure plastic marine waste, including green nets.  As a result of not adding materials to create colour consistency, the DuraOcean is also fully recyclable at the end of its life.

The chairs are available as a bistro set with a table made of sustainable eucalyptus, which is also the material used for the legs of the chairs.  All in all this chair offers the perfect mix of sustainability and style.
